Daily Ponder: Where do you Read?

I try to read everyday, but finding time can be tough. As a result I’ll read whenever, and wherever, I can grab a few minutes.

At the moment, my reading places include:

  • In bed
  • Curled up on the sofa in front of the log fire
  • On the train (and tube) in London
  • On the station platform (waiting for delayed train)
  • In the car, sat at the level-crossing (the barriers always close for at least five minutes!)
  • In the bath (difficult with a Kindle!)
  • Waiting at supermarket checkout

What about you?

Where and when do you find your time to read?

I mainly read in bed and on the train back home. However, if the reading is not leisure reading but more “study reading”, I prefer the library to focus: so many people studying and reading in the same room really helps!

I don’t like reading in fits and starts – I can’t get into a book that way, and get very frustrated once I’m half-way through to try keeping the feeling of immersion in the story in a few minutes at a time. So I wait till I get chance for half a day, a full day, a day and a night… And read the whole thing at once.
Lord of the Rings in three days and nights (the whole trilogy). Not much sleep. War & Peace in three days (ditto). Exhausting and somewhat disorientating, but fantastically satisfying.

Wow – Lord of the Rings in three days. I can imagine how immersing yourself in a story like that can be really satisfying. I don’ t think I’ve ever read a book cover to cover in one sitting – but I think now I’ll try it.

I was 15 and I had nightmares about the Balrog for a while, so a powerful experience, but you certainly get lost in the writer’s world that way…

I am too scared to take my kindle into the bath!! I’m too clumsy, which is a shame. I tend to read on the tube or the train now – also on the platform – london overground is delayed way too often!

I used to read in the bath too! That was my favourite reading spot as a kid, actually. But then our flat was re-furnished and re-designed and we had to get rid of it and fit in a shower instead. Grrr! So now I usually read in bed or in my beanbag chair.

In bed, on the couch, at my desk during my lunch break, in the car (audiobooks), in waiting rooms…with a 1 year old in the house, I sneak most of my reading time in during naps these days!

    hi crime thriller girl
I read everywhere and anywhere I can. I must be one of the few people who loves getting stuck in traffic jams or in a queue as I just get my book out and start where I left off. – I travel a lot on public transport and often miss my stop if I get lost in my reading!
